LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas is among nine states to be awarded grants of $9.2 million from the U.S. Department of Education for improving personnel training to help children with disabilities.
The federal agency announced the grants on Friday. The state’s education department will receive nearly $900,000.
The funds help states to reform and improve systems to prepare employees in early intervention, education and transition services to boost learning for disabled kids.
Under the program, states must partner with at least one higher education institution to implement the terms of the grant.
Other states receiving grants are Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada and Tennessee.
