SOLON, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a girl who drowned while swimming at Lake Macbride beach in Eastern Iowa was on a field trip with 25 other children from a Cedar Rapids child care center.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says 6-year-old Alaina Joy Hauskins was with Kids Kampus Learning Center Thursday on an annual trip to the beach, part of a 2,000-acre state park 16 miles north of Iowa City.
The sheriff’s office says emergency dispatchers received a call of a missing child at the state park around 2 p.m. A few minutes later a second call came from a group of teens indicating an unresponsive child was pulled from the lake.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (https://icp-c.com/1eVXhTu ) she was pronounced dead at the scene by a helicopter ambulance doctor.
