ALTON, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has closed its office in Alton in southern Illinois.

IDNR public relations director Chris Young tells The (Alton) Telegraph (https://bit.ly/1gPKeov ) that the lease for the office expired July 31 and wasn’t renewed. He says the closure was a cost-cutting measure, saving the department nearly $8,900 a month. Young says the agency paid more than $106,000 for the office lease from August 2014 to July 2015.

Young says ten staffers were relocated to offices at state parks in the region, including Pere Marquette, Frank Holten and Beaver Dam.

Young says anyone trying to reach Riverbend or Alton should call the Pere Marquette office.
