MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say a South Florida man set his house on fire and killed himself during a police standoff.
Miami police say officers responded to the man’s home Friday morning after receiving reports that he was planning to harm himself. The officers reported a possible gunshot and smoke coming from the home. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Special Response Team responded.
SRT members found the man near the back of the house. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and did not find anyone else in the building.
