ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The University of Michigan Health System has declined to release a report about an investigation into a fire that injured a patient.
In response to a request by The Ann Arbor News (https://bit.ly/1K6Tb3I ), health system spokeswoman Mary Masson says hospital attorneys determined the report is “not subject to disclosure because it was collected specifically for a review undertaken with the purpose of reducing morbidity and mortality and improving patient care.”
The patient was burned June 22 during a procedure to restore a normal heart rhythm at the health system’s cardiovascular center in Ann Arbor. The health system says investigators concluded a “spontaneous spark” ignited a paper drape and mask covering the patient.
Seven staff members were evaluated. The health system says there’s no evidence of equipment malfunction or human error.
