MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Those wanting a taste of Vermont history will have a chance to do so for free next weekend, as the state’s Bennington Battle Day observance will include free admission at historic sites.
Also, the annual Bennington Battle Living History Encampment begins at the Bennington Battle Monument on August 15. Costumed reenactors will be on-site all weekend. Authentic Revolutionary War cannons will be displayed and fired periodically.
The Old Constitution House in Windsor, the Senator Justin Smith Morrill State Historic Site in Strafford, the Eureka Schoolhouse in Springfield, the President Chester A. Arthur Historic Site in Fairfield, and the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in Plymouth Notch will also be open and free to the public on Aug. 16 for the Bennington Battle Day Holiday.
