GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - A north Alabama couple has been arrested on charges of neglecting a 5-year-old boy for years.

Etowah County sheriff’s officials say 37-year-old Charles Calvin Peppers and 33-year-old Misty Dawn Peppers of Boaz are each charged with aggravated child abuse.

A statement from Sheriff Todd Entrekin says a three-month investigation showed that the couple allegedly abused the child through severe medical neglect that went on for more than two years.

Court records aren’t available to show whether either person has a lawyer, and the victim isn’t identified. But documents show the Department of Human Resources filed a complaint against the man last month involving a 5-year-old boy.

The couple is jailed in Gadsden with bond set at $25,000 each.
