A jewelry store in Florida is giving away free shotguns this Christmas.

Goldsmith Jewelry and Engraving, which doubles as a licensed gun dealer in downtown Deland, has already given away about 30 shotguns this season and plans to give out plenty more in their annual “Fire and Ice” sale, shop owner Jessie Czerok told the New York Daily News.

“Men are notoriously late shoppers,” Ms. Czerok said. “Christmas Eve is always busy.”

Customers who spend more than $450 in the store will receive the free 12-gauge shotgun, worth about $270, as a gift. Customers must clear a federal background check before taking home their free shotgun, Ms. Czerok said.

The owner started the deal three years ago, but this year marks a record in the amount of guns given away. Ms. Czerok said the customers are also more diverse this year, the Daily News reported.

“We’ve had a lot more women coming in this year, either buying themselves a piece of jewelry and giving the gun to their husbands or buying men’s rings and keeping the gun for themselves,” she said.

Ms. Czerok said the reaction from the neighborhood has been mostly positive.

“My wife loves jewelry, and it was an opportunity for us to get jewelry,” customer Bill Seabrease told a local NBC News affiliate. “And I get a gun — first one in 20 years. So, you have the best of both worlds.”

The shop plans to run the same deal around Valentine’s Day.
