LAS VEGAS (AP) - Health officials in Las Vegas are reporting the first two influenza deaths of the season

The Southern Nevada Health District announced Thursday that two men, both over age 60, have died as a result of the flu.

Dr. Joe Iser, chief district health officer, says the flu season has been mild so far this year.

Last year, 26 people died, 321 people were hospitalized and 583 cases were reported in the fall-to-spring season.

That was a spike from an average over the previous three flu periods: 9 deaths, 112 hospitalizations and about 468 reported cases.

Officials say the number of flu cases usually peak in January and February.

Iser says there’s still time for people to get a flu vaccine.
