CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (AP) - A former county Republican leader who stole the savings of a man who lived at the nursing home he owned has been jailed after failing to make restitution.

The Press of Atlantic City reports (https://bit.ly/1QKzGGy) that 53-year-old Robert Greco Jr. was sent to county jail this week after failing to pay back more than $139,000 to the victim at the East Creek Manor Residential Health Care Facility.

Greco previously served as leader of the Cumberland County Republican Party.

He admitted persuading the man to give him power of attorney and then using the man’s money to pay for business expenses.

He pleaded guilty to third-degree theft charges. Income-tax related charges were dismissed. His plea deal would have given him probation if he paid the money back. Sentencing is Jan. 8.
