EAGLE POINT, Ore. (AP) - A historic Oregon grist mill was destroyed in a Christmas morning fire.

Medford-area firefighters were called to The Butte Creek Mill in Eagle Point just after 4 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters say the structure was destroyed by the fire, which is under investigation. No one was inside at the time.

The Butte Creek Mill has been a historic landmark for more than 140 years. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and was considered the oldest water-powered grist mill, still commercially operating west of the Mississippi.
