CLARKSON, N.Y. (AP) - Members of an upstate New York family helped rescue a pastor and his daughter after they were struck by an alleged drunken driver on Christmas Eve.

Tracy Brugger tells The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (https://on.rocne.ws/1JADlPx) Saturday that three of her uncles and neighbors pulled the victims from a burning car.

She says family members were opening presents at the Rochester area home when they heard the collision and rushed outside.

Clarkson Community Church pastor Tony Bartolucci and his 14-year-old daughter, Gianna, were in guarded condition at a hospital.

Monroe County sheriffs say Efrain Lopez-Contreras is being held on vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated charges. It’s not clear if he has an attorney. Sheriffs say 29-year-old Lopez-Contreras is in the country illegally but didn’t provide his country of origin.
