ISIS-supporting terrorists launched an attack in San Bernardino, California, last week. While much of the coverage in the aftermath of an assault that murdered 14 people and injured 21 more indicated surprise and shock that Islamic State terror group is here, it shouldn’t be a surprise at all.

In May of this year, James Comey, the director of the FBI, told a group of police officials that the agency was overwhelmed with the number of Islamic State followers in the United States, asked for their assistance and announced additional surveillance teams were being put on the job.

Fox News reports that the FBI has over 1,000 active Islamic State investigations with 48 of those being individuals considered so dangerous they are under 24/7 FBI surveillance. About this extraordinary arrangement, this newspaper reported, “The squads, known as mobile surveillance teams or MST are following the men and women, who are believed to be radicalized, 24 hours a day in case they plan to commit any acts of terrorism. …”

Keep in mind, these people are deemed this dangerous, yet President Obama’s Department of Justice won’t arrest them. Why not? One can surmise that Mr. Obama is loathe to face what arrests would confirm: Our immigration system has allowed terrorist fighters into the country; that the Islamic State is not contained; that al Qaeda is not on the run; that climate change isn’t our immediate national security threat; and that he, Mr. Obama, is a failure at keeping this nation safe.

So, in the aftermath of San Bernardino, the Democratic establishment, Mr. Obama’s White House, the FBI and the media are behaving as though they’ve just been woken from a deep slumber and are surprised to find themselves on planet Earth.

Mr. Obama’s assertions that the Islamic State was “contained,” and most recently that there is no known threat to the homeland, signals his commitment is to a political narrative at the expense of reality and our own safety here at home.

“What is this terrorism you speak of? Who are these people you allege are here? This is impossible nonsense. Look, my unicorns are the best sign of trouble, and they’ve been sleeping all day. In fact, we need more unvetted Islamists here in the United States as soon as possible.”

No matter how much they protest, the president and his gang know full well that we’re sitting on a powder keg. The FBI’s own workload and public revelations about the now deeply-embedded terror threat speaks to the truth of the matter. The only reason to continue to deny our grave situation is to avoid having to act.

Instead, even before we knew the details of the San Bernardino attack, the liberal machine was in full-action mode, promoting their agenda. As the terror was happening, an editor at Huffington Post breathlessly tweeted about the proximity of the shooting to the nearest Planned Parenthood. Markos Moulitsas, the founder of the liberal website Daily Kos, immediately blamed the GOP, tweeting “Yo, GOP, kinda hard to talk about ‘keeping people safe’ when your peeps are shooting up America.”

And Mr. Obama, himself, still incapable of naming the enemy, commented that we didn’t know what compelled the shooters and then, again, lectured us about gun control.

We, you see, the American way of life, our Constitution, are the problem.

Once liberals realized it was terrorism, which could not help them or their preferred narrative, they grew silent on social media. Their passionate concern for victims and causes of violence evaporated. Mr. Moulitsas even deleted his tweet accusing conservatives of the massacre. But that’s their specialty: Flush things down the memory hole if it doesn’t serve you any longer.

Democrats, who never want to let a good crisis go to waste, decided they might have a way to make all those dead bodies useful: They moved legislation in the Senate requiring everyone on the terror watch list to be banned from buying a gun.

That’s right — the liberal answer was to rip away due process from tens of thousands of people who have been put on a list because they may, or may not, be a terrorist, or at least terrorist-y.

I’m all for law and order, but the government does not get to kill due process and a variety of other constitutional protections for Americans simply because someone in the federal bureaucracy puts them on a list. That’s called fascism. Sen. Ted Kennedy was on that list at one point. So was Weekly Standard writer Stephen Hayes. Children have been found on the list.

The Senate blocked the legislation, but the Democrats knew that would be the case, allowing the media and leftist operatives to scream, as one did on Twitter: “TODAY REPUBLICANS STOPPED LEGISLATION THAT WOULD STOP PEOPLE ON THE TERRORIST WATCH LIST FROM BUYING FIREARMS!!!!!!!!!”

Actually, no, the Republicans stopped a Democratic fascist effort to use a crisis to strip away due process and constitutional rights away from people who were put on a list.

After San Bernardino, Mr. Obama said buying guns in this country is “just too easy.” Actually, the real problem is that for Islamist terrorists and their sympathizers, getting into this country is just too easy.

As for the Democratic Party, after this nation was attacked their plan was to pretend as long as possible that it wasn’t terrorism and then when undeniable, to work stripping away due process for Americans.

Right now, Central Command is under investigation for allegedly changing and softening intel on the Islamic State in order for it to match Mr. Obama’s preferred “everything is just fine” narrative. This isn’t so difficult to believe considering we see the president himself and all those who surround him, doing that everyday. Because it’s Mr. Obama’s reputation that’s at stake, and isn’t that what matters?
