URBANA, Ill. (AP) - For the first time the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is letting high school seniors know their admission status all on the same day.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/173Dg9G ) students can check the UI website starting at 4 p.m. Friday to find out if they’re accepted for fall 2015.

The campus eliminated “priority notification” this year to relieve stress for students and stop Illinois applicants from choosing other schools. UI officials say the new system lets the school look at all applicants at once. Accepted students have until May 1 to accept the UI’s offer.

Previously students who applied by Nov. 1 were notified in December if they were accepted or deferred. Deferred students were pooled with students who applied by a January deadline. That group learned of their status in mid-February.
