WINNABOW, N.C. (AP) - Re-enactors will tell the story of the fall of Fort Anderson with a nighttime interpretation that visitors can watch by the light of lanterns.
The re-enactment will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the fort in Winnabow in Brunswick County.
Confederate troops evacuated Fort Anderson before the break of dawn on Feb. 19, 1865, not long after Fort Fisher fell to Union forces. The port of Wilmington also fell within days of the evacuation of Fort Anderson.
The re-enactment is part of a weekend of events at Fort Anderson that includes lectures by Civil War historians and tours of normally inaccessible Northern and Southern batteries.
The night tours include on Saturday will depart every 20 minutes.
