BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Two children are recovering after they fell into a frozen pond in Blacksburg.

Blacksburg Rescue Lt. Will Bulloss tells The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1AhAI2a ) that the ice buckled as the boy and girl were walking on the pond at an apartment complex on Monday.

Bulloss says the children were submerged in freezing water for five to 10 seconds. They managed to get out of the water and onto an island in the middle of the pond, where they waited for help.

He says water rescue technicians got the children off the island. The children were taken to a hospital. Neither suffered life-threatening injuries.
