PHOENIX (AP) - A Scottsdale woman is facing child abuse and other charges after allegedly hitting her 11-year-old son multiple times with a belt and buckle.
Maricopa County Superior Court officials say 30-year-old Tassia Chandler was released on her own recognizance after a court appearance Tuesday.
She doesn’t have a lawyer yet and has a March 6 preliminary hearing in her case.
Chandler was arrested Sunday on suspicion of aggravated assault, child abuse and disorderly conduct.
Scottsdale police were called to Chandler’s apartment after a caller reported a family argument and said a child could be heard screaming.
The boy told police his mother had hit him 15 times with a belt buckle and officers say they noticed welts on his forehead, right arm and wrist.
