SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Federal officials say more than 140,000 Utah residents enrolled in health insurance plans through the government-run online marketplace before Sunday’s deadline.
U.S. Health and Human Services Department figures released Wednesday include those who signed up for 2015 coverage between Nov. 15 and Feb. 15.
Federal officials didn’t say how many people in Utah they’d like to see get covered for 2015 through, but local advocates set a goal of 100,000.
Across the country, nearly 11.4 million signed up for insurance through HealthCare.gov.
The website offers a place to find insurance for those who don’t get coverage through their jobs and is a key component of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.
The government is offering a grace period through Sunday for people who started applications but couldn’t finish them before the deadline.
