PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Starting July 1, if you want to golf on any of five Portland municipal golf courses, you won’t be able to smoke.
The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/2vAWjA) that the City Council voted 4-1 Wednesday to ban smoking at all city-owned parks and nature areas, including four city-owned golf facilities- Heron Lakes’ two courses, Rose City and Eastmoreland. The newspaper says the ban will include the Red Tail course, although it is located in the suburb of Beaverton.
City officials say while a policy violation could result in a misdemeanor citation, the goal will be education and better public health.
Portland joins a handful of other large cities in banning smoking on city-owned golf courses.
The ordinance says the ban includes such items as clove cigarettes, e-cigarettes, nicotine vaporizers, chew, snuff, smokeless tobacco and marijuana.
