ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York is again the nation’s second largest producer of apples and the third largest producer of grapes.

New statistics released by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration on Wednesday show the state’s apple farms yielded 1.26 billion pounds of apples. Only Washington state produced more.

As for grapes, New York grew 188,000 tons last year, making it the third largest producer in the country after California and Washington.

Cuomo says the numbers show the importance of the state’s agricultural economy. Together, the state’s apple and grape harvests were worth nearly $360 million last year.
