HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaiian Electric says it’s restored power to 14,000 customers in the Hawaii Kai area of Oahu.

Spokesman Darren Pai says preliminary indications are that high winds in the mountains caused electricity to go out Thursday.

The outage forced the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation to close Hanauma Bay in the afternoon.

The city says the popular snorkeling and swimming destination’s bathrooms and reception area were inoperable without power.

Hanauma Bay will reopen Friday at 6 a.m.
