GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - The city of Grand Forks last year saw an 11 percent increase in major crimes from 2013, though violent crimes dropped 13 percent.
The Police Department’s 2014 annual report shows 1,734 offenses in the categories of murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, auto theft and arson. That was 11 percent higher than the previous year but 4 percent less than the 10-year-average.
While violent crimes of murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault dropped 13 percent over the year, property crimes increased 13 percent.
The department responded to a total of 42,069 calls for service last year, a 3 percent drop from 2013.
