ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - A former Washington County sheriff’s deputy accused of having sex with female inmates has pleaded no contest in a plea agreement.

Steven Thayer pleaded no contest to three misdemeanor counts of custodial sexual misconduct as part of the deal Wednesday in 5th District Court in St. George.

The 29-year-old Thayer acknowledged through the no-contest pleas that the state had sufficient evidence for a conviction if taken to trial.

The Spectrum of St. George reports (https://bit.ly/17A8oOc ) Thayer originally faced seven misdemeanor counts of custodial sexual misconduct but four were dismissed.

Thayer was working in the Purgatory Correction Facility at the time of the crimes.

Two female inmates reported multiple incidents involving him in 2013. Thayer also admitted to relations with a third inmate.

Thayer, who was fired, awaits sentencing April 1.
