MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A Berkeley County man has been indicted on felony abuse and neglect charges after a toddler in his care died.
Media outlets report a county grand jury indicted 27-year-old Joshua E. McDonough on Thursday.
Berkeley County Prosecutor Pamela Games-Neely says the girl died of head injuries last April.
Prosecutors say McDonough claimed the child fell off a bed. He was home alone with the girl while her mother was at work.
McDonough is charged with one count each of death of a child by a parent, guardian or custodian by child abuse, gross child neglect creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury, and presentation of false information regarding a child’s injuries.
