CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - The family of an 18-year-old Casper College student who died in a one-vehicle crash while returning from livestock judging practice has sued the college, staff and the driver arguing the school failed to provide safe transportation for their son.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1DUc3D6 ) the family of Theodore “Teddy” Weekly II filed the lawsuit on Feb. 13, nearly two years after the fatal crash.

The lawsuit alleges a fellow student driving his pickup was not qualified under the school’s rules and that the livestock judging team coach knew he had been pulled over for speeding, but did not stop to evaluate the situation. Weekly died of head injuries in the crash near Glendo less than 40 minutes after the stop.

School officials declined comment. The lawsuit seeks damages for medical, burial and legal costs and loss of earnings capacity.
