GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot and killed by Green Bay police after he stabbed an officer in the arm.

The Green Bay Police Department says officers were performing a well-being check on 30-year-old Joseph Biegert when the incident happened Tuesday night on the city’s west side.

Police say Biegert stabbed one of the responding officers before he was fatally shot. Biegert died at the scene. Both officers were treated at a hospital and released.

Police did not release the officers’ names but say one man has two years of service while the other has five years.

The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating. Both officers have been reassigned to administrative duty during the investigation, which is standard.
