ELKO, Nev. (AP) - A judge in Elko has postponed a preliminary hearing into next month for a man accused of severely beating a 5-year-old girl.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports (https://tinyurl.com/qjex2yo) a judge this week reset Danny Miller Jr.’s hearing for March 20.

Police say the girl suffered fractures to her skull, neck and jaw. They say Miller told investigators last month the girl refused to eat her dinner and threw herself off a barstool onto the floor.

Prosecutors say a doctor determined the injuries were consistent with abusive head trauma. They say they also found bruises from past incidents.

The 47-year-old Elko man was arrested Jan. 16. He’s charged with abuse or neglect of a child with substantial bodily harm. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
