PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence man has been sentenced to life in prison - plus an extra 20 years behind bars - for a 2013 murder and an unrelated non-fatal shooting in 2012.

Twenty-year-old Judier Dixon was sentenced Thursday in Providence Superior Court after pleading guilty to murder and assault charges.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin says Dixon fatally shot 46-year-old Richard Arenas in June 2013, when Arenas was working on a vehicle in the driveway of his Providence home. Authorities believe Arenas wasn’t the intended target of the shooting.

Police say Dixon’s DNA was found on the gun used in the shooting. He was arrested in Alabama in July 2013.

Kilmartin says Dixon also shot Amaury Santos during an argument at a Providence gas station in May 2012. Santos survived.
