PROVO, Utah (AP) - The wife of a man shot and killed by police in Provo is disputing official reports saying Cody Evans intended to provoke police into killing him.

Joana Evans said during a demonstration Wednesday in Provo that she called police Feb. 15 because her 24-year-old husband was intoxicated and in a troubled state of mind.

Joana Evans says she told police about a BB gun and officers knew her husband had a fake assault rifle before they fired.

Provo police have said she told dispatchers he might want to commit so-called suicide by cop, and the weapon he pointed at officers appeared real.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1BeUjCd) the shooting is under investigation by the Utah County Attorney.
