CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - A 20-year-old Northern California man has been convicted of first-degree murder for killing a Castro Valley woman and setting fire to her house during a burglary.
The Oakland Tribune reports (https://bayareane.ws/1EF44vp) a jury on Monday found Cody Nicosia guilty of all charges after just a half day of deliberations.
The 20-year-old Hayward man faces life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of 58-year-old Barbara Latiolais.
Latiolais was brutally beaten and strangled inside her Castro Valley home, which was set on fire after the October 2012 attack.
Nicosia told investigators he and a friend decided to kill the woman because she wouldn’t leave the house so they could rob it.
He is scheduled to sentenced March 4.
