ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Georgia couple has pleaded not guilty to methamphetamine trafficking charges in New Mexico.

Federal prosecutors say 24-year-old Alex Thomas Burns, of Atlanta, and 32-year-old Riana Latel Cunningham, of Stockebridge, entered their pleas Friday.

The two were arrested Tuesday in Albuquerque on a criminal complaint charging them with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

According to the criminal complaint, Burns and Cunningham were arrested after law enforcement officers allegedly found more than nine kilograms of methamphetamine in their vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 40.

Their trial dates haven’t been scheduled yet.

If convicted, prosecutors say Burns and Cunningham each face sentences of between 10 years and life in prison.
