RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Uniformed youth and their leaders came to the Legislative Building as the state House honored the Boy Scouts of America and one of its auxiliary organizations.

Scouts sat in the gallery and stood on the House floor Monday, when the chamber approved a resolution celebrating the organization and the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow. The order is the national honor society for scouts who exemplify scouting character, responsible camping and cheerful service. Several House members are Eagle Scouts or have sons who attained scouting’s premier honor.

The celebration wrapped up as about 30 people led by the state NAACP chanted inside the building rotunda to promote a mass weekend rally in Raleigh. None of the demonstrators were arrested. Similar protests opposing Republican policies have occurred since 2013.
