JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - A Jersey City man charged with murder in the stabbing death of his mother’s boyfriend has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter.

The Jersey Journal (https://bit.ly/16H9FT9) reports that Gregory Stone now faces up to 12 years in prison after entering his plea on Monday. He’s due to be sentenced March 30.

Authorities have said the July 2013 slaying occurred as Stone’s mother and her boyfriend, 52-year-old Jules James, argued about the electricity having been cut to their home during a heat wave. When Stone heard what sounded like someone being hit, he got a knife from the kitchen and went upstairs to intervene.

Stone then stabbed James several times in the chest and the abdomen. He remained at the scene and was soon taken into custody.
