BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Baton Rouge police have arrested a 79-year-old man who was accused of trying to set his longtime girlfriend on fire for telling his wife about their affair.
Carlos Garrido told detectives that he doused the woman Saturday in a “flammable liquid” and tried to set her ablaze for calling his wife and telling her the two had been having an affair for several years.
According to an arrest report, Garrido tackled the woman when she tried to run away, but she was ultimately able to escape.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1u0hxuh ) Garrido, of Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on a count of attempted second-degree murder. He was being held on $75,000.
It was unknown if he has an attorney.
