LOVELL, Wyo. (AP) - In a span of a week, the Lovell mayor fired and then unfired his police chief. Now, the fate of the town’s top lawman will likely be determined Tuesday during a Town Council meeting.

New Mayor Angel Montanez’ first action as Lovell’s top official was to fire Police Chief Nick Lewis on Jan. 3, less than 24 hours after being sworn in. The mayor then issued Lewis a letter Jan. 5 informing Lewis he had not been fired.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://tinyurl.com/l5mlghw) the police department’s Facebook page posted a message welcoming back Lewis on Thursday.

The department said it is now waiting on direction from the mayor and council.

Police officials did not return a message seeking comment.
