PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) - Deputies with bloodhounds and a team of divers searched Monday for a vice president from a finance company who disappeared after checking into a hotel in Palm Desert.

Omar Meza, 33, of Los Angeles, hasn’t been seen or heard from since checking into the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort on a business trip on Thursday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. He failed to show up for scheduled meetings on Friday.

A dive team searched a pond at the hotel Monday, and deputies used bloodhounds to look for Meza.

Meza is a vice president for AIG Financial Distributors who often travels for work and visits Palm Desert every other month.

He has not used his credit cards since Thursday and did not call to say goodnight that evening as expected, his wife, Diane Meza, said.

“It’s so out of character for him,” Meza told the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1wRDPtK ). “He’s highly responsible and reliable.”
