FAIR LAWN, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey man who allegedly tried to run down a police officer last week has turned himself in.

Fair Lawn police say 20-year-old borough resident Adam Vivat was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and a weapons offense.

Authorities say Vivat was trying to hide drugs when officer Juan Rodriguez saw his vehicle parked in a dead end street on Jan. 7. When Rodriguez went to investigate, authorities say Vivat drove away and made a u-turn toward the officer, initially driving at him before driving off.

Rodriguez wasn’t struck or injured.

Vivat’s car was found two days later in Elmwood Park. He surrendered the next day.

Bail was set at $50,000 for Vivat. It wasn’t known Tuesday if he has retained a lawyer.
