NEW YORK (AP) - The NBA Players Association has hired Jordan Schlachter as its chief marketing officer.

The former NBA employee and longtime marketing executive is the union’s first CMO. Executive director Michele Roberts says Tuesday in a statement that Schlachter’s hiring “will translate into tremendous value for the NBPA and the players.”

Schlachter, a Harvard graduate, spent 10 years working for the NBA in various business roles. He also worked for the U.S. Olympic Committee, the New York Knicks and Clear Channel Media and Entertainment before spending the last two years as executive vice president for The Marketing Arm’s sports marketing and sponsorship consulting practice.
