PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Former Portland Mayor Sam Adams is going to work for a Washington, D.C., environmental group, the World Resources Institute.

The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1yjrTnn ) Adams will work on climate change. The nonprofit says he will lead its work in policy and politics to “encourage the country’s transition to a strong, low-carbon economy.”

Adams served a four-year term as mayor. After he was elected in 2008, Portland was the largest U.S. city with an openly gay mayor, but a sex scandal cost him politically. Shortly after taking office, he admitted lying during the campaign about a relationship with a teenager. He didn’t run for re-election.

Since leaving office, he has been executive director of the City Club of Portland, a nonprofit that holds forums and does research on public issues.
