COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young is taking part in some events in Columbia commemorating the life of Martin Luther King Jr.
The University of South Carolina says Young will be the featured speaker on Wednesday at a breakfast in the Russell House Ballroom.
Young is a former congressman who also served as mayor of Atlanta. He also was once a top aide to King.
The university says the breakfast is part of this year’s annual celebrations, the theme of which is “Education: The Pipeline to Equality.” Other events include a panel discussion featuring state Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal and an annual MLK Gospel Fest at the Koger Center for the Arts.
