GULFORT, Miss. (AP) - A South Mississippi man has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of making false statements on travel vouchers five years ago to obtain more than $23,000 while working at Stennis Space Center.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1BZTf4v ) 59-year-old John Mack Brown was a civilian worker under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Navy when he submitted fraudulent travel receipts to the Department of Defense.

He was indicted on four counts of making false statements.

In exchange for his plea on Tuesday, three of the charges were dismissed. Scheduled for sentencing April 9 he faces a prison term of up to five years and up to a $250,000 fine.
