RICHMOND —  State Sen. Linda “Toddy” Puller is retiring from the Senate when her current term ends a year from now.

The Democrat from Fairfax County announced Wednesday that this would be her last term. She was first elected to the House of Delegates in 1991 and to the Senate in 1999. She is the widow of Lewis Puller Jr., a Pulitzer Prize-winning Vietnam War veteran who took his own life. For much of her tenure she has had limited mobility as the result of a stroke.

She is the latest of four senior senators who have recently announced plans to retire.

All 40 seats in the Senate will be up for election in November.
