NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A baby-sitter has been indicted on child endangerment charges stemming from the death of a 4-year-old girl she allegedly left home alone last year with three other young children.

NJ.com (https://bit.ly/1IL7ZVa) reports an Essex County grand jury returned the four-count indictment against Sykita Covington last week. She remains jailed on $75,000 bail and has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities say the 39-year-old Newark woman left the children - who ranged in age from 1 to 4 - alone inside an apartment in May 2014. They say Naira Bennett eventually became trapped inside a folding bed or futon, which closed around her head and body.

A neighbor found the child unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead at a hospital several hours later.

The three other children in Covington’s care were unharmed.
