BOSTON (AP) - The MBTA is investigating after a safety inspector was allowed to leave the scene after crashing an agency-issued SUV into a stopped bus and injuring a passenger, thus avoiding mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
The Boston Herald (https://bit.ly/17KxU49 ) reports that the 44-year-old inspector, a 20-year T veteran, has been suspended without pay after rear-ending a bus waiting at a crosswalk while a pedestrian crossed in Cambridge at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The person’s name has not been made public.
The T says the employee was allowed to leave after giving a statement to police. The worker was tracked down at a relative’s house at 4 p.m. and taken for drug and alcohol screening.
T spokesman Joe Pesaturo says the worker should not have been allowed to leave.
