ROBERTSVILLE, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a man shot in Franklin County after he drove a truck toward police during an auto theft investigation has died.

Police from Franklin, Jefferson and St. Louis counties had surrounded a Robertsville shed Wednesday night when a pickup crashed through the closed garage door, striking several police cars. An unspecified number of officers then fired at the truck.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1ICEiYn ) reports that police identified the driver Thursday as 29-year-old Michael Goebel of Byrnes Mill. Passenger Conrad Markmueller VI of High Ridge also was shot. His condition was not immediately available. A female passenger was uninjured.

Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke says one of the at least 10 officers at the scene was injured when he was struck by a car that Goebel had hit.
