SEMINOLE, Texas (AP) - A New Mexico woman faces life in prison for her conviction as the driver in a 2012 attack that left two men dead in West Texas.
Desirae Mata was convicted Thursday night of capital murder for her role in the fatal shootings in rural Gaines County.
Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty so the 27-year-old woman from Hobbs, New Mexico, receives an automatic life prison term.
Authorities have said they believe Mata drove several attackers to the residence in May 2012 as part of a theft scheme. The bodies of 30-year-old John Allen and 29-year-old Jay Doyal were found at Allen’s home.
Three co-defendants remain in custody awaiting trial in the attack at a residence near the New Mexico border.
