CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has tapped Republican engineer Gregory Boso as the new 11th District state senator.
The Democratic governor had to pick from three Republicans to replace GOP state Sen. Clark Barnes, who has officially resigned to become Senate clerk.
Boso currently provides forensic and investigative engineering services for cases in Kentucky and West Virginia. The Summersville resident is president of G.L. Boso & Associates Inc. and Boso & Boso Inc.
On Wednesday, the Republican 11th Senatorial Executive Committee identified three potential replacements, including Boso.
The appointment Friday is effective immediately. It puts the Republican Senate majority back to 18-16.
Barnes is a Republican from Randolph County. He was elected Senate clerk during Wednesday’s start to the 60-day legislative session.
Former Senate Clerk Joseph Minard made $90,800 in 2013.
