LELAND, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Brunswick County say a woman and her boyfriend are in jail after her 16-month-old son sustained a brain injury.

Local media outlets report the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office charged 35-year-old Albert David Morgan III with felony intentional child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. The sheriff’s office also said 33-year-old Angel Marie Ray is charged as an accessory for assisting Morgan’s attempt to escape arrest.

Morgan’s warrant says Brayden Ray suffered a head trauma that resulted in bleeding on the brain and abrasions and bruises of his face, neck and body. Braden was taken to UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital and placed in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Morgan is jailed on $1 million bail. Ray’s bail is set at $200,000. It’s not known if either person has an attorney.
