RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A federal court has barred a Rapid City man and his company from manufacturing and distributing laser devices that they have marketed to be able to treat more than 200 different diseases and medical disorders.

U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey Viken filed a preliminary injunction this week against Dr. Robert Lytle and QLasers PMA.

The Department of Justice filed a civil complaint against Lytle and his businesses in October. It alleged that they’ve been violating the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act by nationally marketing their lasers without approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Lytle, 80, has told the Rapid City Journal that his companies are private membership and don’t do business with the public. He argues that the FDA doesn’t have authority to regulate private membership associations.
