SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in a New Year’s Day shooting in Syracuse.

Charquell Judge was arrested Thursday in the Jan. 1 death of 23-year-old Kendell Williams and the shooting of Williams’ brother.

Syracuse police say the gunfire erupted after a dispute outside a convenience store involving Judge, Williams and Williams’ brother, Stephen Grimes.

Williams was shot in the back and pronounced dead at a local hospital. Grimes was shot in the foot.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (https://bit.ly/1DOdYdQ ) that Williams’ death was the first and only homicide in Syracuse this year.

Judge was arraigned Friday on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is being held without bail.

Information on an attorney for Judge was not immediately available.
